Two men from Florida have been slapped with charges after a spree of car break-ins in the Troy area that ended in tragedy. Danarious Young, 28, and Chauncey Javon Franklin, 21, face 10-count warrants for breaking into vehicles and conspiracy, with officials reporting their alleged involvement in a series of thefts at local fitness and daycare centers, ClickOnDetroit reported.
Young and Franklin were in cahoots with a 30-year-old woman from Florida, who, fleeing from the police following the break-ins, was struck fatally by a vehicle as she dashed onto M-59. After thinking he had hit debris, the 42-year-old driver who struck her, who later came forward to the authorities, was hit by a terrible realization that he had been involved in a much grimmer scenario, The Oakland Press detailed.
The nefarious activities came to light when authorities initiated investigations after several reports of larceny targeting vehicles—a collaboration between the Troy Special Investigations Unit and Shelby Township Special Investigations Unit brought the duo, along with the woman, under suspicion, CBS News Detroit noted.
While Young and Franklin are currently cooling their heels at the Oakland County Jail, their next court appearances are pending. The calamity unfolded on the morning of March 15 and echoes through the community as the investigation by the sheriff's office into the crash that led to their accomplice's untimely demise continues. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, turning a petty crime string into a matter of life and death with consequences reverberating far beyond cracked car windows and stolen goods, as per a statement obtained by The Oakland Press.
