Fremont Police Arrest Man Suspected of Hatchet Attack and Robbery in Local EaterySource: Fremont Police Department

A hatchet-wielding maniac caused chaos in a Fremont eatery last week when he attacked an employee before fleeing with stolen food. The violent episode unfolded at approximately 12:15 p.m. on March 22 in a restaurant near Mission Blvd and Warm Springs Blvd, according to the Fremont Police Department.

The assailant, identified as 35-year-old Evin Sagastume of Fremont, was reportedly yelling inside the establishment prior to the attack. Witnesses saw him armed with a small hatchet, and in a frightening development, Sagastume struck an employee with the weapon, inflicting a minor arm injury. After the assault, he grabbed some food and bolted from the restaurant. The officers, having been called to the scene, didn't waste time; they located Sagastume, a short distance away from his rampage, with the hatchet found nearby.

In a statement obtained by the Fremont Police Department via their Facebook page, authorities detailed the arrest of Sagastume and the initial charges leveled against him. He's facing serious time for Penal Code 211- Robbery, Penal Code 245(a)(1) – Assault with a deadly weapon, and Penal Code 422(a)- Criminal threats. It is also noted that this wasn't Sagastume's first brush with the law, as he has a history of arrests for assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a weapon.

Sagastume now sits in Santa Rita Jail, waiting to answer for his latest alleged acts of violence.
