Early Monday morning, the Gardena Police Department responded to a fatal incident outside a local nursing center, launching an investigation that has since disrupted traffic flow in the area. The event, taking place at approximately 3:30 a.m. on the intersection of Marine Avenue and S. Vermont Avenue, resulted in one man's death, CBS News Los Angeles reports.
Upon arrival, authorities found a shirtless man lying on the sidewalk with at least one gunshot wound. The man was unresponsive and, despite the efforts of paramedics, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has been withheld as, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner continues the process of notification of next of kin.
Following the shooting, traffic modifications were put in place. "All southbound traffic on Vermont Ave will be diverted to westbound Marine Ave until further notice," advised GardenaAlerts, leading to expected delays throughout the area as the investigation continues.
Currently, details about the suspect or the possible motive behind the shooting remain unknown, and the Gardena Police Department has not released additional information regarding the ongoing investigation. Local residents and motorists are advised to avoid the area, if possible, and stay alert for further updates from law enforcement officials.
