In a tragic turn of events, a high-speed crash on Peachtree Corners Circle in Georgia has culminated in the arrest and charging of a father for the death of his 5-year-old daughter and two others. The accused, 30-year-old Aaron Vaughn, faces multiple charges including second-degree murder and first-degree homicide by vehicle, as detailed by the Gwinnett County Police Department. Following the horrific accident that occurred just before 4 p.m. on March 10, Vaughn was detained and built into the Gwinnett County Jail on March 22, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
Caught driving a Camaro said to reach at least 100 mph on a road with a 45-mph limit, Vaughn collided with a BMW hosting the now deceased, Armas Harding and Laura Rueda, both aged 46. Also in Vaughn's vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, and his two daughters, ages 5 and 6, with the eldest surviving in an undisclosed condition, and the younger, named Aura Camarono, succumbing to her injuries at a hospital, as 11Alive detailed.
The array of charges Vaughn now faces is extensive, and also includes two counts of transporting a child in a vehicle without proper restraint, reflecting the non-usage of child safety seats that Georgia law requires for children under 8 years of age. This oversight compounds the severity of charges which also factor in two counts of second-degree cruelty to children, serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, and speeding. The profound weight of these charges represents a litany of legal repercussions for decisions made behind the wheel that day.
As the community grapples with the aftermath, the case serves as a stark reminder of the deadly consequences that can stem from reckless driving. The surviving front seat passenger, whose identity and condition are yet to be disclosed by authorities, remains hospitalized. On the other side of Vaughn's vehicle's doors were his children, fastened in seatbelts yet without the additional safety that child seats provide, tragically resulting in the preventable death of Aura Camarono.
