A Gilroy software engineer finds himself behind bars, facing an array of charges after a drunken escapade turned into a discovery of illegal weapons and a potentially explosive situation at his home. According to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, Markus Beck, 46, careened his BMW into a parked car before hitting another vehicle, initiating a domino effect that would uncover a plot seemingly fit for a movie.
Beck's misfortune began when, after the crash, a tipster led police to the belligerent man who sat with a loaded gun at his feet. A search of his trunk would later reveal a loaded AR15-style assault rifle, incidents that occurred in the wee hours of February 28. "I am so thankful that the Gilroy police stopped this incredibly dangerous behavior before anyone was badly hurt or killed," District Attorney Jeff Rosen remarked, showcasing a community shaken yet steadfast in the resolve to see justice served. The investigation continues with the threat of amended charges before a plea hearing slated for April 10 at South County Courthouse, as reported by the District Attorney's Office.
Acting on a gun violence restraining order, police turned their attention to Beck's home, only to be greeted by a tangible reek of propane; unlit burners turned on high, and the deliberate obstruction of chimneys and fireplace posed a grave threat. Describing the scene, a tweet from @henrykleeKTVU paints a chilling picture of cell phones positioned around the residence, suspects are an attempt to trigger a fire remotely. Beck is now detained without bail pending these serious allegations.
