After a jury determined his innocence, Stephen Hixson, the assistant chief of the Greeneville Police Department, has resumed full-duty status following an acquittal on a domestic violence charge, the Greeneville Police Department has confirmed. Hixson had faced allegations of simple assault against his stepdaughter, stemming from an incident that occurred in December 2022, which led to his indictment by a Greene County grand jury in March 2023. The matter, initially looked into by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation upon the request of the Greeneville Police Department, has reached a conclusion with Hixson's legal vindication, as WBIR reported.
The jury's decision was seen as an affirmation of Hixson's innocence and the integrity of the judicial process, according to Chief Steve Spano's remarks. Illustrating the significance of the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, Spano emphasized the department's commitment to the highest standards of accountability and integrity in the announcement of Hixson's acquittal and return to duty today, as stated in a statement obtained by WATE.
Following the trial, Greeneville city manager Todd Smith reinstated Hixson to his law enforcement roles. The case's resolution, moreover, signifies a point of reinforcement for the department's obligation to maintain an impartial legal framework, especially when addressing charges of misconduct among its ranks, as Steve Hixson told WJHL.
The return of Hixson to the police force, an individual who held a significant leadership position prior to the allegations, spotlights the ongoing dialogue about police conduct, community trust, and the mechanisms of justice that oscillate, admittedly, between public skepticism and the principles of due process, In expressing his satisfaction with the jury's decision, Chief Spano reinforced that the department is unwavering in its adherence to foundational ethical standards, in the release provided to WBIR.
