Commuters in Gwinnett County faced disruptions Sunday, as emergency crews tackled a gas leak and a water main break in the vicinity of Dacula Road NE. The situation prompted authorities to shut down the road from Hebron Church Road to Fence Road, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
The initial call for a gas leak in the 500 block of Dacula Road came after 1 p.m., but responders found more than they bargained for – a busted water main also required urgent attention. The unforeseen emergency led to the evacuation of a local business, though thankfully no injuries have been reported, said Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.
The Hazardous Materials Response team made their way onto the scene, diligently evaluating the area before deeming it safe for the public. Meanwhile, a local restaurant found itself at the center of the chaos, as patrons were promptly ushered out due to the looming threat.
According to Atlanta News First, Buford Gas officials clocked in nearly 10 hours of work following the excavation of Dacula Road and, successfully secured the gas leak before the stroke of 11 p.m. on Sunday. The water leak, identified as a separate issue, was addressed upon firefighters' arrival. Yet, the area remains cordoned off while the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources hustles to mend the water main.
