A tragic scene unfolded in Hayward when officers responded to a domestic disturbance call and found a woman fatally stabbed in her apartment. According to a press release issued by the Hayward Police Department, the incident occurred on Thursday, March 21, in the 25000 block of Cypress Avenue just before 6 p.m.
Witnesses claim to have seen a man, later identified as 66-year-old Gary Barroga Garcia, to quickly leave the scene in a vehicle shortly after the disturbance was heard. Garcia was later arrested after voluntarily contacting police elsewhere to report his involvement in the crime. He is now facing murder charges and is held in custody.
The victim, who was married to Garcia and shared an apartment with him in Hayward, was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical personnel. Authorities are currently withholding her name. The Hayward Police Department marks this as the city's second homicide of the year.
