Chaos erupted in an Uptown apartment building as a fire blazed through a third-floor unit earlier this week. On March 26, Houston firefighters were dispatched to 1420 Winrock Blvd. to tackle the flames. Fortunately, the fire did not claim any victims as there were no reported injuries, according to an official release from the Houston Fire Department.
A call came in at precisely 8:37 a.m., alerting the authorities to the emergency. Diligent firefighters, upon their speedy arrival, discovered a fully engaged fire threatening to consume the building. The property damage is estimated at around $75,000. The same amount is noted for property saved, signaling a bitter-sweet outcome within the scorched walls. The cause of the fire was identified as unintentional, stemming from a heat source that was kept too close to the combustibles, as detailed in a bulletin published by The Houston Fire Department.
The firefighters charged into the building, facing smoke that severely hindered their visibility. Amidst the confusion, they completed a primary search of the affected unit. Their efforts were repaid, as a small dog was discovered within the toxic miasma and rescued to safety. The fire was already being combated by the apartment's sprinkler system, but Houston's bravest fully extinguished it using a pump can.
It was an all-hands-on-deck call, with a battalion of 34 personnel responding from multiple fire stations including 60, 5, 28, 2, 51, 69, 57 as well as support from the Village Fire Department. These units coordinated an offensive attack that successfully stymied the fire’s potential rampage through the building.
