A young man has been slapped with charges in the fatal shooting that took a teenager's life and left another injured in Houston last year. Nineteen-year-old Dennis Armenta Jr. now faces manslaughter, and, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to authorities. The shooting occurred in the early hours of November 11, 2023, at a residence on Hiram Clarke Road.
The incident claimed the life of 17-year-old Jonathan Adame Reyes. Another victim, aged 16, was critically injured but later released from the hospital after receiving treatment, according to the City of Houston's news release. The arrest came on Tuesday, March 19, as Houston Police Department's Gang Division Crime Reduction Unit officers apprehended Armenta without incident.
At the crime scene, HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Dudley, and Detective K. Heaverlo found Reyes unresponsive. "HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the residence at the above address and found Mr. Adame Reyes unresponsive in the garage. They also observed a second victim in the roadway. Both had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Adame Reyes deceased and transported the other victim to a hospital," detailed the official account of the events.
Later investigations zeroed in on Armenta as the prime suspect in the violent altercation. After his arrest, he confessed his involvement in the shooting, the confession subsequently leading to the charges filed against him. Armenta's booking photo was released along with the news bulletin, signaling to the public that a suspect is now facing the judicial system for the violence on that November morning.
He awaits his day in the 487th State District Court.
