A spurned lover's violent outburst has led to gunfire in Houston. Laniyah E. Decembly, a 21-year-old woman, has been slapped with aggravated assault charges after a domestic dispute turned nearly deadly on Richmond Avenue. Authorities report that she fired multiple shots at her ex-girlfriend — landing the 22-year-old victim in the hospital with a bullet wound to the hand.
According to the City of Houston News, the drama unfolded yesterday around 1:20 p.m. In an alleged fury, the victim stormed Decembly's residence, pounding on her front door, and eventually escalated her rage by hurling a brick through a window. Decembly responded with gunfire — initially missing her target and hitting a parked vehicle instead. She didn't stop there; armed and dangerous, Decembly emerged from her home, pursuing her former lover with at least two more shots.
The Houston Fire Department medics were quick to the scene, transporting the injured woman to an area hospital, where she's reported to be in stable condition. Meanwhile, police detained Decembly without further incident.
In the fallout of love's labor lost, a court case now hangs over Decembly. She stands accused in the 230th State District Court. As the investigation continues by HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division's own Sergeant C. Bartlett and Detective A. Chheav, Houston is left to ponder the fine line between affection and affliction.
