A Hyannis man has been taken into custody and is facing charges of assault with intent to murder, after a dramatic self-surrender to Plymouth police last night. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Paulo Farias, made his way into the Plymouth Police Headquarters around 8:30 PM, in an unusual act of turning himself in, as reported by the Plymouth Police Department.
Witnesses say Farias entered the lobby shirtless, knelt on the ground, and placed his hands above his head while clutching his phone. Lieutenant George Driscoll and Officer Kyle Kreitzer, who initially approached Farias, heard a voice over the phone. The voice, which identified itself as a Barnstable Police detective, informed the officers that Farias had just shot someone, was wanted for attempted murder, and should be taken into custody, according to the Plymouth Police Department.
Farias was arrested without incident by Plymouth officers and subsequently turned over to the Barnstable Police. The investigation is currently being handled by the Barnstable Police, who have yet to release further details about the shooting incident Farias is allegedly connected to.
