Hyundai is stepping up its game to combat auto theft by teaming up with local law enforcement to give owners a security boost. In light of a surge in car thefts, owners of select Hyundai models will benefit from free anti-theft software upgrades and other security enhancements, aimed at outsmarting thieves who've been exploiting vulnerabilities popularized on social media, as reported by the City of Bellevue, WA.
The automotive giant has announced a multi-city installation event, partnering with the Bellevue Police Department, among other regional agencies. Kicking off at Bellevue's Factoria Mall, Hyundai owners parked by the Nordstrom Rack from March 15-17 saw technicians working hard—installations taking about as long as a coffee break.
It's a part of Hyundai's broader initiative to curb the rising trend of vehicle thefts in the Puget Sound area. The event didn't require appointments, making it a convenient stop for weekend shoppers.
According to the City of Bellevue, WA, the service was available for Hyundai models spanning 2011 to 2022, targeting those most at risk of theft. Those who missed out on the Factoria Mall event can catch the team in Tacoma and Edmonds on the same dates. Ready to ward off would-be carjackers, technicians at the mall were equipped to upgrade the software or, for older models not up to spec, install an ignition protector device.
