Get ready to don your green and celebrate Irish heritage because the Irish Festival Seattle is back and it's bigger than ever. March 16th and 17th at the Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall, you'll get the chance to fully immerse yourself in all things Irish. From 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the first day, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the second, festival-goers can enjoy an incredible lineup of music, dance, and plenty more, all free of charge. "The Irish Festival Seattle is the culmination of the annual efforts of the Irish community in Seattle to celebrate its heritage and culture," said Mark Kohler, Executive Director of the Irish Heritage Club, according to a statement obtained by Center Spotlight Seattle.
It's not just about wearing a shamrock and having a good time—this festival aims to deeply explore the roots of Irish culture. Genealogy workshops, history lectures, and even Gaelic language lessons offer a genuine taste of the Emerald Isle right in Seattle. And, as the kids enjoy their own tailored activities, you can savor true Irish and Celtic craftsmanship, or possibly find your new favorite food among the expanded offerings from vendors like Shawn O'Donnell's.
Dance troupes and musical acts are especially spotlighted at this year's event. According to Center Spotlight Seattle, the festival will feature performances by step-dancing groups like Caroll-Henderson School and the Fire and Ice Irish Dance Company, along with music from The Home Rulers with Susan Burke and world-renowned accordionist John Whelan. Each performance is a slice of Ireland's vibrant cultural tapestry, delivered with talent and passion just for Seattle.
The festival isn't just fun and games—it serves a deeper purpose within the community. "Irish Festival epitomizes the essence of our Festál series, uniting communities to celebrate their heritage and offering a glimpse into their unique culture," Seattle Center Director Marshall Foster stated in an interview with Center Spotlight Seattle. Even Seattle's Mayor Bruce Harrell weighed in, saying, "The Irish Festival is a testament to our commitment to One Seattle, celebrating diversity within our city and fostering community connections." His remarks underline the significance of the event in strengthening the bond between Seattle and Ireland, including the sister city's relationship with Galway.
Irish Festival Seattle is part of the larger Seattle Center Festál series, which is hosted by 24 cultural organizations. This series, as the Center Spotlight Seattle describes, exemplifies the city's dedication to celebrating its cultural mosaic. If you're in or around Seattle on March 16-17, don't miss out on the chance to experience the heart and soul of Ireland at this enriching and festive occasion.
