In a bid to get more Knoxvillians to the polls, the Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) is making it ridiculously easy for voters to cast their ballots on Election Day. Brushing aside the obstacle of transportation costs, KAT is offering free rides to anyone looking to make their voices heard at their local ballot boxes this Tuesday, March 5.

According to a statement on the City of Knoxville's official website, Isaac Thorne, the city’s Director of Transit, declared with no frills, “Transportation should never be a barrier to voting. We are committed to ensuring that all Knoxvillians have easy access to polling locations on Election Day.”

Planning is a breeze too, for those looking to catch a free lift to democracy's dance. Voters can plot their course to the ballot via the free Transit app, swing by KAT’s website to use their trip planner, or even make a good old-fashioned phone call to KAT’s customer service.

But there's a little hitch. In their zeal to boost turnout, KAT is advising riders to get an early start, seeing as some routes might wind down before polling stations close up shop. It’s a wrinkle not unlike a notoriously unreliable uncle promising a ride to the airport; passengers are encouraged to plan accordingly to avoid missing their flight to the civic duty.
