Last Saturday, downtown Knoxville was transformed into an animal lover's paradise, with the return of the 17th annual Mardi Growl Pet Parade and Festival. According to WVLT, the event kicked off in Old City at 11 a.m., featuring a bevy of pets and their owners decked out in colorful costumes.

The parade marched its way to World’s Fair Park where the festivities continued, complete with costume contests, vendors, food trucks, and live music. As always, the event wasn't just about showing off the cutest canine ensembles—it was also about supporting a good cause. Ann Riddell, an attendee and dog owner, told Inside of Knoxville, “This is our fourth year doing this, and it’s a great cause to raise money for Young Williams Animal Center.”

However, putting together an event of this scale meant some logistical changes to the downtown area. Several streets were closed off to make room for the furry friends and their companions. According to WBIR, road closures went into effect from 7:30 a.m., blocking off street parking to secure space for parade registration and the actual procession. The roads along the parade route were closed between 10:30 a.m. and noon to ensure everything went off without a hitch.

Not only were the streets taken over by the pitter-patter of paws, but attendees also had the chance to give back in a big way. Each animal in the parade needed to be registered with a $15 fee, and the most successful fundraiser won a YETI bundle prize. Beyond individual contributions, a portion of vendor sales was also set to benefit the Young-Williams Animal Center. The center's mission, apart from throwing arguably the city's most adorable party, remained focused on promoting the adoption and care of animals, as Inside of Knoxville noted, echoing the sentiments that have made Mardi Growl a staple of the Knoxville community.
