The Knoxville Center for Autism is flipping pancakes for a cause, serving up a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser later this month with the sweet goal of funding a new playground. Set for March 23 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at their Oak Ridge Highway location, the center is adding an Easter Egg Hunt, raffles, and photo opportunities to the mix, WATE reports.
According to Sarah Gilbert, clinic owner and director of the Knoxville Center for Autism, “We have been wanting to have a playground for our kids for quite some time and staff all got together and said let’s do a fundraiser. So, we are putting together a pancake breakfast along with an egg hunt fundraiser for anyone in the community to come out and enjoy it,” she told WATE. Community members looking to lend a hand can head to the breakfast where every pancake served and donation collected will contribute to the cause.
Since its foundation in March 2010, the Knoxville Center for Autism has focused on providing comprehensive therapies for children with autism spectrum disorder, including ABA Therapy, speech and occupational therapies, therapeutic groups, and even a Sprouts Learning Academy Co-op from Kindergarten through third grade. The center has expressed the belief that a playground is more than a play space—it's a crucial developmental hub where children grow their motor skills and social interactions, Ground News cites.
The planned playground promises to offer various activities like swings and space adequate for the kids to play and develop their skills. The Knoxville Center for Autism provides fun and also supports gross and fine motor skill development, sensory input stimulation, and important social interaction. This detail was further elaborated on in an article by Yahoo News.
Donations can be given at the event or sent directly to the Knoxville Center for Autism. Residents are encouraged to support the breakfast fundraiser and take part in the additional festive activities for a worthy cause.
