An illicit gambling den, along with a narcotics operation, has been dismantled by Los Angeles police, leading to the arrest of seven individuals believed to be at the heart of the illegal activity. The bust occurred on February 29, when Vice officers from the LAPD's Southeast Area Vice Unit carried out a search warrant on South Main Street, acting on an anonymous tipster's information provided to the LA Regional Crime Stoppers, according to the LAPD Newsroom.
Detectives hit the jackpot when they discovered several illegal gambling machines, unspecified quantities of narcotics, and a loaded firearm. The raid was not just a show of force against the gambling machines but also a crackdown on a group of Los Angeles locals caught up in the web of the gambling and drug trade. Information obtained from the official press release by the LAPD confirms that all suspects were nabbed and cited for violating Los Angeles Municipal Code, Section 43.13.2, which prohibits being present at a gambling location, or for outstanding felony warrants.
The age of the suspects ranged from 34 to 48, with the operation appealing to a swath of the city's population. One suspect, identified as 20-year-old Brandon Banks, was tagged with a felony warrant for burglary, while Jermaine Pinson, 46, and Swerte Patterson, 39, were both picked up on separate felony warrants, as per LAPD.
