Dinosaur costumes were the order of the day at LEGOLAND California as the theme park smashed a Guinness World Record for the largest dino costume party to ever take place on this—or one might argue, any other—planet. On the morning of March 3, the park was overrun not by flesh-eating predators but by a colossal gathering of 1,273 costume-clad Dino Valley enthusiasts who, according to FOX 5 San Diego, "danced their way into a record-breaking frenzy."
This dino-sized jamboree wasn't just about breaking the records. It was also firmly established to announce the official opening date of Dino Valley, set to be March 22, a detail gleaned from the raptor's mouth via LEGOLAND California's Facebook page. The highly anticipated event turned the park into a Jurassic hub, with attendees ranging from tiny triceratops tots to full-grown T-Rexes shimmying their prehistoric hearts out.
While beating the previous record held by Dundurn, Saskatchewan, in Canada, with their 1,187 dancing dinos, LEGOLAND California now stands atop the dino-costume-party peak. FOX 5 San Diego reported that LEGOLAND's own LEGO T-Rex and brass band were amongst the crowd, which "led a dance party" that likely could have been seen from the Mesozoic Era. The event also served as the debut stage for a brand new park character, "Paleontologist Girl," who probably knows something about digging up old records—like this one.
Dino Valley, situated conveniently near the park's entrance, promises to serve up a trio of new rides, including DUPLO® Little Dino Trail, Explorer River Quest, and the Coastersaurus—because who doesn't want to zip past a LEGO Brachiosaurus quickly? The park even encourages young adventurers to "Dust off the dirt" to discover fossils in their Dino Dig area and to get handsy with LEGO DUPLO bricks in their building zone. LEGOLAND, apparently not content with resting on its laurels, has decided to retain its 25th birthday celebration prices, offering kid tickets for a rawr-some $25 through March 10, further noted by LEGOLAND California's Facebook page.
As the warm weather approaches, visitors can look forward to returning to LEGOLAND California Water Park on March 16 and eventually to the LEGO CHIMA Water Park when it opens on June 15. And let's not forget, the summer of 2024 holds the exclusive North American debut of the LEGO World Parade—think dinosaurs, but this time festooned with a bit more panache. Crowds are expected to come in droves to catch the glittering array of six floats inspired by popular LEGO themes as costumed entertainers sing and dance through the park's thoroughfares, as detailed by FOX 5 San Diego. Those looking to plan their visit can consult the LEGOLAND California website for a comprehensive list of rides and attractions.
