Locust Grove has lost its longstanding leader, Mayor Robert Price, who died at the age of 79 from what city officials describe as a sudden illness. WSB-TV reported that the city announced Price's passing on Saturday morning, a day after he died on March 15.
Price, who has been a public servant to the people of Locust Grove for over a decade and a half, was first elected to the City Council in 2007 and took office as mayor in 2012, following Mayor Lorene Lindsey. During his tenure, Price never faced an opponent in his mayoral re-election campaigns, an apparent sign of unwavering local support. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, a City Hall spokesperson said, "Which is a testament that the government he ran with the City Council was widely supported by the citizens."
The city is in mourning for a man who was recently re-elected for another term that was set to last until 2028. Price was known for his leadership and dedication to Locust Grove, a city that expressed great confidence in his governance style and vision.
Details about Price's sudden illness have not been disclosed, however, the loss has prompted City Hall to call for unity and support. "We urge everyone to offer prayers for the family and to give them time to grieve properly until then," a spokesperson requested in a statement. As the community comes to terms with the unexpected news, funeral arrangements for Mayor Price are pending, with announcements from his family expected in the coming days.
