A fatal stabbing in Long Beach has left one man dead and homicide detectives searching for answers. The Long Beach Police Department reported that at around 1:06 a.m. on March 3, officers rushed to the scene on the 5200 block of East 2nd Street after receiving a call about the incident, according to a statement released by the department.
Police found the victim with serious stab wounds to the upper body and provided medical assistance until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived. The victim, an adult male, was taken to a local hospital but did not survive the attack. The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin, the LBPD blotter noted.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the stabbing stemmed from a fight between two groups. During the altercation, an adult male suspect inflicted the fatal wounds on the victim. After the incident, the suspect, along with others involved in the fight, fled the scene. The LBPD said in their report that additional officers are patrolling the area today, including patrol officers, detectives, and the Neighborhood Safety Bike Team, to engage with the community and aid the ongoing investigation.
