Long Beach streets were hit by gunfire as two separate shooting incidents occurred within hours of each other, leaving the community on edge and law enforcement searching for suspects. In the first event, a man sustained a non-life-threatening wound after an argument turned violent on Olive Avenue on March 8, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
Around 7:44 p.m. in the 900 block of the avenue, the victim found himself in a confrontation that escalated when the other man, described only as an adult male suspect, drew a firearm and shot him, the victim then found his way to a local hospital where authorities were notified of the incident. The aggressor evaded capture and remains at large, with detectives vigorously on the case, scouring for leads that could bring him to justice.
In a separate episode of violence, shots rang out near the intersection of Market Street and Locust Avenue early on March 9. Officers who arrived at the scene shortly before 2:00 a.m. discovered bullet casings, but no victims were found at the location, pointing to a potential near miss.
An investigation into the incident revealed that a female suspect fired at a vehicle, whose occupants had perhaps by fortune or some providence managed to evade harm. Their identities as well as that of the shooter is still unknown but police are pursuing any thread that might unravel this violence that has blanketed the city. The Long Beach Police are appealing for witnesses and urging anyone with information to come forward as they press onward in both unresolved cases.
