A fierce blaze engulfed a single-story home in Winnetka yesterday, challenging Los Angeles firefighters as they battled to extinguish the flames. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported heavy fire showing from the attached garage of the residence located at 20345 W Londelius St at around 6:00 PM. According to a statement from firefighter Nicholas Prange, crews took an offensive approach upon arriving at the scene.
The fire rapidly spread to the attic, prompting firefighters to pause their offensive for a brief period to carry out salvage operations to protect the homeowner's valuables from smoke and water damage. After resuming their efforts, personnel from the fire department were successful in suppressing the fire in just 25 minutes with the help of 32 firefighters. The LAFD's response included advanced hose lines to combat the garage fire and tactics to prevent it from spreading further into the living quarters.
The incident, which didn't result in any injuries to the firefighters, did lead to the evaluation of one adult female who suffered minor smoke inhalation; however, she declined transport to the hospital. The damaged home means its occupants will need to find temporary lodging, a task for which the Red Cross has been called in to assist.
