Drivers seeking a picturesque commute may find solace in learning that several U.S. bridges offer more than just a means to get from point A to B. According to surveys from Gunther Volkswagen Fort Lauderdale, Michigan's Mackinac Bridge and Green Bay's Leo Frigo Bridge are among the nation's top 100 most scenic bridges, as reported by Detroit Free Press and FOX 11 respectively.
The iconic Mackinac Bridge, which provides stunning views of the Great Lakes, secured the seventh spot on the list. In a survey aimed at travelers, the bridge was praised for enhancing the daily grind of commuters with its expansive views of the majestic straits it spans. "These structures not only stand as testaments to human ingenuity but also provide expansive views across the stunning landscapes of our nation," Joseph Gunther IV of Gunther Volkswagen Fort Lauderdale told Detroit Free Press. Meanwhile, at number 82, the Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay is celebrated for its serene river vistas and panoramic cityscape views.
The survey, which asked 3,000 commuters across the U.S. for their preferences, highlighted the everyday journeys of countless drivers. The Leo Frigo Bridge offers "unrivaled views of the tranquil waters below and the bustling cityscape beyond," contributing to a soothing commute, as described by FOX 11. Other Michigan bridges, like the Ambassador Bridge and the Blue Water Bridge, were also featured in the top 30.
The survey also brought attention to the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas, which ranked 83rd. According to the Star-Telegram, the bridge is a relatively new addition to the landscape, having opened in 2012, but it has already made an impact. "Business and civic leaders are excited about the revitalization and economic development the bridge has spurred for the West Dallas neighborhoods and the catalyst it has been to bring people down to the river," explained Trinity River Corridor.
As cities rely more on transportation, bridges go beyond practicality. Structures like the top-ranked Admiral Clarey Bridge in Hawaii, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida, and the Golden Gate Bridge in California not only link places but also connect people to the natural beauty beyond urban life's concrete and steel.
