A man who allegedly violated a restraining order was shot and killed by deputies in Paramount on Tuesday night, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.

The incident began when Lakewood Sheriff's Station was called to the 15900 block of Indiana Avenue to respond to the violation. They spoke to the victim there, observing the suspect driving by the residence but losing sight of him soon after, as local officials said.

The search continued until the suspect was seen heading east on Artesia Boulevard, reaching Downey Avenue. Once deputies attempted to stop him, the suspect reversed his car, colliding violently with a patrol unit.

The confrontation escalated quickly when stepping out of his car armed with a knife, the suspect charged at the deputies, which led to the fatal deputy-involved shooting. The encounter took place around 9:18 PM, according to the LA County Sheriff's Department.

Struck by gunfire, the suspect received treatment on the scene from the Los Angeles County Fire Department but was pronounced dead shortly after. Described as a Hispanic male aged between 35 and 40, he was the only suspect involved in the incident and no other suspects are being sought after. A knife was found at the site by investigating officers.

The injured deputy, meanwhile, was transported to a hospital for treatment of the injuries caused by the car crash. No other individuals were reportedly injured in the incident.

Additional details on the shooting are limited as the investigation by homicide detectives continues.
