Tragedy struck downtown Los Angeles early Sunday when a man in his 40s, after being shot, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a building. The violent collision occurred shortly after 5 a.m. near the intersection of Ninth Street and Stanford Avenue, as reported by CBS Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department was on the scene promptly following reports of the incident.
Upon being dispatched, officers discovered the vehicle embedded in the structure, with the driver unresponsive inside. Being shot while driving, the victim was pronounced dead by paramedics. At this stage, the authorities have not identified the victim publicly.
The case has prompted an investigation to piece together the events that culminated in the man's death. Officer Charles Miller of the LAPD articulated to The Los Angeles Times that after firefighters tried to administer treatment to the man, they noticed he had sustained a gunshot wound. No arrests have been announced in the aftermath of the shooting and subsequent crash.
The area, part of the city's bustling Fashion District, was cordoned off as investigators scoured the site for evidence. Trying to determine what led to the victim's shooting before the crash, detectives are calling on potential witnesses to come forward with information.
