A man was found fatally shot in Tarzana, Los Angeles, early Friday morning. The grim discovery was made outside a gated community south of the Braemar Country Club, near a popular hiking trail in the area. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene at around 12:30 a.m. at 3876 Winford Drive and found the victim unresponsive in the street, CBS Los Angeles reported. A security guard from a nearby community was the one to first encounter the scene near the 3500 block of Winford Drive, according to KTLA.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced the man, believed to be around 30 years old, dead at the location. The officers at the scene said the victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. So far, investigators have not been able to promptly provide any information on a possible suspect, as they continue to thoroughly scour the area for security footage or witnesses that could aid in the investigation. There have also been no immediate details regarding the motive behind the shooting.
The body was found in proximity to Mulholland Gateway Park, a noted hiking spot for Los Angeles residents seeking escape and respite through nature. CBS Los Angeles's report highlighted the proximity to this well-trod path, underscoring the jarring contrast between the violent act and the typically peaceful surroundings.
Crime scene tape surrounded the area where investigators could be seen collecting evidence, including several shell casings. The investigation takes place under the watchful eye of a neighborhood not accustomed to such transgressions, a community cloaked in the quiet of affluence and presumption of safety. "No further details about the shooting and no description of a possible suspect were released," noted KTLA, indicating much remains to be unraveled about the incident which has left residents seeking answers and reassurance.
The LAPD is yet to release the identity of the victim as they probably continue to notify the next of kin. With no arrests made, the case is being treated as a homicide and the search for the shooter is still very much active. Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to an act that has momentarily disturbed the quietude of this hill-fringed enclave.
