A wild chase through the streets of Mankato ended with a splash Saturday evening when a man fleeing police drove his vehicle into a creek. The Department of Public Safety officers had attempted to stop the man around 7:40 p.m. near the 400 block of North 4th Street, but their routine traffic stop spun quickly out of their control. The driver bolted with the cops in hot pursuit, as reported by the City of Mankato, Minnesota Government.
The attempted escape played out like a scene from an action movie, with the perp turning east on Madison Avenue, then barreling north on North 5th Street, only to finally meet his match at a dead end. The desperate driver tried to boldly leap an embankment, which did not quite go to plan, as his vehicle dived into the chilly waters of the adjacent creek and water retention pond.
The soggy suspect managed to extricate himself from the submerged vehicle and was taken into custody without further ado. His wet departure from the scene was followed by a prompt trip to Mayo Clinic Health System Mankato, courtesy of the Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service, treating minor injuries he sustained during his unplanned aquatic excursion, as per the City of Mankato, Minnesota Government.
