Thirty-year-old Saliq Marques Calloway will be spending the next six years and eight months behind bars following his recent sentencing for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of burglary tools, and smuggling drugs into jail. This ruling came after a November 2023 conviction stemming from a February incident where Calloway stole snacks from a store, attacked two clerks, and later clashed with Menlo Park police officers. According to a tweet from the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, this serves as his second strike case.

In a separate but related case, Calloway had been previously arrested alongside 31-year-old Maria King following a home burglary near West Hillsdale Boulevard and Greenoak Court in San Mateo. In her attempt to flee, King allegedly tried to run down an officer and his canine companion with her vehicle, prompting the officer to discharge a firearm at the escaping car. The bullets hit neither King nor anyone else. She was immediately apprehended at the scene, while Calloway was later arrested in San Bruno. Information relayed by ABC7 News indicates that King will also face attempted police officer murder charges.
The violent shoplifting incident that led to Calloway's recent sentencing occurred when he was confronted by store clerks for stealing items. Calloway retaliated with violence, an action severe enough to be considered assault with a deadly weapon. His resistance against apprehension by Menlo Park police officers further added to his legal woes.
Residents near the San Mateo burglary were put on edge as authorities put a shelter-in-place advisory during the manhunt for the suspects. The community could finally sigh relief once Calloway was taken into custody without further incident.
