Chaos erupted in the usually quiet streets of Menlo Park when shots were fired at a home on Terminal Avenue. The Menlo Park Police quickly arrested an 18-year-old suspect named Eric Soler, who they believe was the shooter. The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Residents in the area were startled by the sound of gunshots around 1 a.m. Witnesses saw a young man wearing a red and black shirt near the scene. Bullets hit another home on Terminal Avenue, but thankfully, nobody was injured. Police officers arrived and arrested a suspect matching the description despite some resistance.
The danger was heightened when police found that Soler, who lives in East Palo Alto, was carrying two firearms, one of which was loaded and ready to fire. Soler faces multiple charges, including shooting into an inhabited dwelling, carrying a loaded firearm unlawfully, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and negligently discharging a firearm. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for resisting arrest.
Evidence collected at the scene included spent rounds near the targeted home. Thankfully, nobody was hurt in the incident. Soler has been booked into San Mateo County jail, and the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office will prosecute the case.
The Menlo Park Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to call 650-330-6300.
