A Delta Air Lines flight en route from Dallas to New York had to take an unscheduled pit-stop in Atlanta, thanks to a couple of hot-headed passengers whose mid-air brawl had the whole plane on edge. Delta Flight 420, which started off at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport heading for the Big Apple's John F. Kennedy International Airport, found itself touching down at Hartsfield-Jackson instead after a fight broke out on board, one of the brawlers was even armed with a lighter – though no fire was set, per the FBI.
The flight, which had taken off at a casual 12:15 p.m., suddenly became the backdrop for high-altitude drama that sent it down to Atlanta at about 3:20 p.m., according to a report from 11Alive, the altercation happened and then the crew, obviously not on board for fisticuffs above the clouds, made a quick call to land the aircraft so the unruly duo could be shown the door in Atlanta.
Ditching the fighters in Georgia, the Airbus A220 with its two pilots, three flight attendants, and the remaining 90 uninvolved passengers assumed they were back on track for JFK. Delta, standing firm on its policy against mid-air rumbles, threw out a statement sating, "Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior and will work with law enforcement authorities to that end. We appreciate the civility and understanding of the remainder of our Dallas to New York customers and apologize for the delay in their travels." as obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
