Minneapolis locals can expect a dash of everything from sunshine to rain — and possible flurries — as they look toward the upcoming week's erratic weather forecast. According to the National Weather Service, they’re in for a sunny start with today's high nearing 58 degrees and a breezy south wind kicking up gusts as high as 30 mph.
Tonight's outlook calls for partially clouded skies and a persistent, gutsy wind before it dials down post-midnight. Temperatures will drop to a low around 39, but not before those south winds have their last hoorah, gusting potentially up to 25 mph. The weekend will then bring a mix of partly sunny skies and highs in the 60s but don't stow away that umbrella just yet.
A shift is expected by Sunday afternoon when the chance of rain peeks up to 30 percent, accompanied by a high near 69. It seems the winds aren't yet done with the city, growing breezier and shifting south to hit speeds between 20 to 25 mph, and, once again, gusts might reach 40 mph.
By Sunday night, the temperature is set to plummet down to around 34, keeping the chance of rain at 30 percent — though by Monday, Minneapolitans could see those rain chances climb to 40 percent with a cooler high near 45. Watch out for Monday night, as a 40-percent chance of precipitation may bring rains before midnight, with a slight shot at snow between then and 1 am. The weather service notes that post-precipitation, the sky should clear as temperatures bottom out around 25.
Residents will be granted a brief respite with mostly sunny days on Tuesday and Wednesday, both showcasing highs in the mid-40s. However, a slight twist slips in by Wednesday night as a slight chance of rain and snow enters the picture, stroking concerns with a low of around 30. The likelihood of rain and snow persists into Thursday, despite the mostly cloudy skies and a more moderating high near 50.
