Minneapolis streets may be a little safer after the arrest of three minors suspected in a series of bold robberies. With aid from several tip-offs from the teens' families, the suspects into custody on March 7, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
The trio, a 15-year-old male, a 16-year-old male with a track record of seven outstanding warrants, and a 17-year-old female, are allegedly linked to various carjackings and auto thefts that have plagued the city in February and March. Police Chief Brian O’Hara praised the tenacity of investigators and the critical role parents played in the arrests. He highlighted, "These violent crimes take seconds to commit, take a team of investigators dozens of hours to process, and can leave victims with lasting trauma", in a report by the Minneapolis Police Department.
O'Hara expressed his gratitude towards the families who crossed the threshold of privacy and trust to inform against their kin. “To end this cycle and to bring an end to the senseless violence in our communities, the MPD needs everyone in the process to help hold these individuals accountable. That includes parents and caregivers," he remarked.
He expressed hope that this collaboration between law enforcement and the community signifies a turning point. "I am thankful to the families who have stepped up and, are working on behalf of their children to ensure that the right actions are taken, and their children receive the support they need. This cooperation may very well save these kids' lives," O’Hara said, as per the Minneapolis Police Department. Details on the juveniles' charges or potential court dates have yet to be disclosed.
