Minneapolis streets witnessed a teen gunman's rage eight months ago, and now, the alleged trigger-man is behind bars. Jaden Trejuan Butcher, 18, stands accused of the drive-by shooting that ravaged a Minneapolis neighborhood, wounding nine individuals, as the Minneapolis Police Department announced his arrest this past Tuesday.
The August 20 fray, which left the Franklin Ave community in shock, had six male juveniles among its casualties, with ages ranging from 15 to 17, peppered alongside adults, one woman aged 55 and two men ages 18 and 48, and while the mayhem spared some with non-life-threatening injuries the fateful bullet did not discriminate, planting life-threatening wounds in two of the 16-year-olds, both the 17-year-olds, and the 18-year-old. Detectives at the crime scene recovered a stunning 42 bullet casings, inclusive of 35 from what they describe as an automatic assault-style rifle.
"I am incredibly thankful for the outstanding investigators of the Minneapolis Police Department who worked tirelessly to build a case against Jaden Trejuan Butcher and did everything in their power to make sure he can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Minneapolis Chief of Police Brian O’Hara expressed his gratitude. The top cop's words echo a community's cry against the surge of gun violence that has been tearing through the city's heart, he further stated, "Gun violence is tearing apart our families and our neighborhoods. I can assure you that the Minneapolis Police Department will continue to answer the call with urgency on behalf of all victims. We will not tolerate these horrendous acts of senseless violence on our streets."
Butcher's stint in the Hennepin County Medical Center, for wounds sustained in another shooting incident that occurred just a night before his apprehension, marked the end of his brief liberty; he has yet to face charges for that Monday skirmish.
