Chaos ensued at a Monroe gas station yesterday, when a vehicle search resulted in the discovery of a homemade explosive device, law enforcement officials reported. The incident occurred as Monroe Public Safety Department officers arrested a wanted fugitive at the Pilot Gas Station located at 1100 N. Dixie Highway. During the search of the suspect's vehicle, officers stumbled upon a "suspicious device," as CBS Detroit detailed.

The experts concluded that the device was indeed an explosive, leading to heightened tension in the vicinity. Residents were advised to steer clear of the area while authorities managed the potentially deadly situation. "The immediate area" was evacuated, noted the WTOL report.
Law enforcement's coordinated efforts ensured public safety with the bomb squad rendering the scene safe and clearance was given around 5:10 p.m. Monroe Public Safety Department emphasized in a Facebook post that there was no further threat to the community following the squad's intervention.
An investigation into the harrowing discovery is currently underway and charges against the unnamed suspect are pending. The identity of the individual in custody remains undisclosed as officials continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the arrest and the explosive's presence.
