A motorcycle rider's joyride turned nightmare yesterday after a close encounter with a sedan in University City. The San Diego Police Department reported a collision that occurred at around 1:25 p.m. on the 9000 block of Regents Road that left a 19-year-old motorcyclist with serious injuries.
According to the SDPD Watch Commander's Log, the young man was navigating his 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound when a 2010 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 32-year-old male, abruptly pulled out in front of him. The sudden appearance of the sedan resulted in a violent crash, which sent the motorcyclist tumbling and sustaining open fractures to his left femur and tibia/fibula. The intake of breath, following the impact, resounded in the quiet of the afternoon and served as a distressing soundtrack to the scene that unfolded afterward.
First responders rushed to the scene, transporting the injured party to a local hospital. Thankfully, their efforts were not in vain, as the rider's injuries, while severe, were determined to be non-life-threatening. Police have confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the incident. The SDPD Traffic Division is vigorously handling the investigation to piece together the circumstances of the collision.
Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the collision to step forward. A call to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 could be the nexus through which the gravity of truth balances against the impulse of speed.
