A Mountain View family has been left without a home following a destructive house fire in the 400 block of Dell Avenue, officials said. The blaze, reported at approximately 5:09 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, prompted an immediate response from the city's fire department and assistance from Palo Alto firefighters. According to a statement on the City of Mountain View's website, occupants of the fire-engulfed home had self-evacuated before the arrival of emergency services.
Firefighting teams arriving at 5:16 a.m. were greeted with flames licking through the roof, while Mountain View Police Department closed off traffic to make way for firefighting efforts, the city confirmed. Working swiftly, the firefighters laid out a 200-foot attack hose line and commenced battling the aggressive flames. Unfortunately, during the firefighting operations, one occupant of the home suffered burns and smoke inhalation. Speeding to provide support, Santa Clara County Ambulance evaluated the victim and transported them to the El Camino Hospital for further treatment.
The fire was declared fully extinguished by 6 a.m., ensuring no further danger was posed to the neighborhood, as per the official communication. Mountain View firefighters also conducted an extensive internal overhaul, tearing into walls and ceilings to ward off any lingering threats from hidden flames. This thorough effort secured the all-clear which, once given, allowed for the re-opening of Dell Avenue to resumed traffic flow.
While the cause of this unfortunate incident remains under investigation by authorities, preliminary estimates suggest the home, now classified as a total loss, sustained damages in excess of $800,000. The two other occupants, located outside the residence with the assistance of Mountain View Police, have been confirmed safe, with no additional injuries reported.
