Country music fans are getting a transportation tune-up this weekend as Chris Stapleton's All-American Road Show hits San Diego's Petco Park. The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is beefing up its Trolley service to manage the influx of over 40,000 attendees on March 2. Concertgoers are being urged to ditch the traffic woes and parking price blues for a direct trolley line to the gig, MTS announced.
To handle the rush, MTS has stated that the UC San Diego Blue Line and, Green Line Trolley will be running with increased frequency. Service to all downtown stations will be every 15 minutes or better throughout the day, bringing fans just steps away from the concert venue. For East County residents, the Green Line downtown from El Cajon Transit Center, Amaya Trolley Station, or Grossmont Transit Center is recommended. Due to track maintenance, a temporary bus shuttle will replace the Orange Line between Euclid Avenue and downtown.
After the show, the Green Line will continue to dispatch trolleys every 15 minutes for at least 45 minutes post-concert, adding trips as needed to accommodate the crowd. The UC San Diego Blue Line will match this cadence with trips north to UTC and additional services according to demand. For Orange Line passengers, the shuttle bus service in place due to construction will not extend additional trains after the event but will continue its operation along National Avenue.
To expedite boarding, MTS advises fans to download the PRONTO app prior to the event. "Load at least $5 on your virtual card for the event day, which covers a round-trip fare for adult riders,” advises the transit authority. They also remind that each person must have their own PRONTO app or card, as multiple fares can't be purchased on a single device. Those who prefer a physical card can load it online at ridepronto.com in advance of the show.
MTS is directing fans to take advantage of the free park & ride lots at various Trolley system points, including Old Town Transit Center, Grossmont Transit Center, and El Cajon Transit Center, among others. Locations listed provide hundreds of free parking spots, alleviating much of the typical downtown parking hassle for concert attendees.
