New 'European-Style' Plaza, Lyrik, to Open Over Mass. Turnpike in Boston's Back BaySource: Elkus Manfredi Architects

A new development is taking shape over the Massachusetts Turnpike in Boston's bustling Back Bay neighborhood, promising a "European-Style" plaza replete with retail stores, living spaces, and a smattering of eateries. This architectural novelty, situated at the juncture of Mass. Ave, Boylston Street, and Newbury Street, is expected to be a thriving hub by this fall.

Among the eclectic mix destined for the overhead space, known as "Lyrik," is the electric car manufacturer Rivian, set to establish Boston's first showroom for its eco-friendly vehicles. Joining the automotive innovator are culinary offerings such as the Greek restaurant chain Avra Estiatorio, George Howell Coffee, and new Pink Carrot, as reported by CBS News Boston. ChiCha San Chen tea house is also set to make a debut, bringing a curated tea experience to the area.

"We are incredibly excited to not only welcome these new retailers and restaurants to our community, but to see the fulfillment of a long-held vision for this site as a fitting entrance to the Back Bay and Newbury Street," Meg Mainzer-Cohen, president of the Back Bay Association, told The Boston Globe.

Boasting around 35,000 square feet of retail space, Lyrik is still filling its ranks with one-third of retail space available for grabs. The mixed-use space over the Pike is the first of its kind in four decades but not the last, as other developments like a lab tower from life-sciences company IQHQ are on the horizon.

The name "Lyrik" pays homage to nearby Berklee College of Music and the Boston Pops, encapsulating the area's artistic essence. As Back Bay's profile continues to grow as an attractive destination, Lyrik aims to draw both tourists and locals with its unique placement and myriad of offerings.
