Gunfire erupted outside a Los Angeles sports bar Sunday night, leaving one man dead and another wounded, in a bout of violence that shook the Vermont Vista neighborhood. The shooting occurred near El Diamante Sports Bar, located at the intersection of West 120th and South Figueroa streets. Police responded to the scene shortly before 10 p.m., where they discovered two male victims, according to KTLA.
One of the individuals, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was pronounced dead at the location. The second victim, transported to the hospital in critical condition, was a man in his 40s, as reported by CBS Los Angeles. Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Bennett relayed that the motive behind the shooting remains undetermined, and details of what transpired inside the bar before the shooting were unclear.
The incident triggered a significant police response and a crowd reportedly gathered at the scene, necessitating additional officers to manage the situation. As investigators worked under a white tent covering the deceased, a notable number of bullet casings could be seen on the ground. The police have not yet provided any information about the suspect, or suspects, involved in the shooting, prompting Bennett to urge witnesses to come forward with any relevant information by contacting homicide detectives at 323-786-5100, as stated in KTLA.
Meanwhile, the authorities are pursuing three suspects in connection with the incident, two of whom were last seen dressed in light-colored sweatshirts and black pants, while the third was wearing all black. Despite the initial unrest, the crowd was eventually dispersed, with no further altercations reported. The vicinity remained cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape as the investigation continued into the night, as per CBS Los Angeles.
