
Tragedy struck the streets of Southeast DC as gunfire echoed through the neighborhood, culminating in one man dead and two others wounded. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the unfortunate series of events unfolded on Stanton Road during the evening hours, prompting law enforcement to investigate a scene that is all too familiar in parts of our city.
First responders descended upon the 3400 block of Stanton Road SE around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday after reports of gunshots were made. Lighting up the night with the red and blue hues of emergency, finding victims of the violence proved a task as much about speed as it was regarding accuracy.
Officials later revealed that three individuals had arrived at a local hospital. Among them, an adult male and a juvenile male both received treatment for injuries deemed not life-threatening. However, the third victim’s fate took a grievous turn when he succumbed to his wounds on Thursday. The deceased, now identified as 26-year-old Amaru Cureton, hailed from the very streets where his life was abruptly ended.
