Braselton witnessed traffic snarls Friday as an overturned tanker truck blocked a section of Highway 53, causing quite the headache for motorists. According to the FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident happened just past New Cut Road and required the highway to be shut down for several hours, disrupting the flow of the usual afternoon rush.
Images of the chaotic scene posted by the West Jackson Fire Department showed the tanker lying on its side, seemingly having slid off the road partially. With traffic redirected onto alternative routes, including New Cut Road and New Liberty Church Road, crews labored to clean up the site. Containing the situation at hand, the 11Alive's SkyTracker observed the area from above, capturing images of the upended vehicle.
Crews managed to offload the truck's fuel before a tow truck could step into action, eventually righting the tanker onto its wheels. Later in the evening, according to FOX 5 Atlanta, authorities worked diligently, ensuring that the fuel spill was nonexistent, much to the relief of environmental safety concerns.
Although the tanker was removed and all lanes reopened later that day, the cause of the crash remains undisclosed. Traffic returned to its regular flow, as emergency teams concluded their operations along the highway. Yet the mishap's origins remain sealed, with neither injuries reported nor additional details released.
