A tragic encounter on the roadway has left a 66-year-old man from Oxnard dead and a 34-year-old female driver injured. KTLA reports that the accident happened Sunday on the 33 Freeway in Ventura County when a motorcyclist was hit by a van that veered into his lane.
The California Highway Patrol detailed that at around 12:15 p.m. near mile post marker 32.70, north of Ojai, a 2017 Dodge Caravan crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2020 Yamaha R1. The Caravan, after striking the motorcycle, went down an embankment. The CHP has yet to release the motorcyclist's name, as his family must first be notified.
According to Ojai Valley News, the motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene by medics from Ventura County Copter 9. The crash prompted responses from multiple agencies, including the Ventura County Fire Department, the U.S. Forest Service, and Gold Coast Ambulance.
The driver of the van, resident of Fillmore, sustained minor injuries, notably cuts to her right leg. Originally thought to have minorly injured three occupants, it was later clarified by a news release that only the driver was hurt. Investigations into the factors contributing to this fatal event are ongoing and witnesses are urged to contact the CHP's Ventura office at 805-662-2640 with any information that could assist.
