A blaze engulfing a warehouse in Oxnard has resulted in a shelter-in-place order for surrounding residents, as fire crews worked through the night to subdue the ferocious flames. Fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. on the 200 block of East Colonia Road, according to the Oxnard Fire Department, according to CBS Los Angeles.
As the inferno raged, East Colonia Road and Oxnard Boulevard were shut down, with expectations that these major thoroughfares wouldn't reopen until midday Wednesday. Oxnard Fire Department declared a shelter in place, ensuring residents protect themselves from potential harm posed by the fire and flying embers, although after the flames were largely contained, the order was subsequently lifted.
KTLA added that besides road closures, train services have also taken a hit, with traffic in the area coming to a complete standstill. The magnitude of the fire warranted a multi-agency response that included assistance from the Ventura County Fire Department, Ventura City Fire, and the Federal Fire Ventura County at the naval base.
Oxnard Police Department issued warnings for the community, urging individuals to steer clear of the vicinity until further notice. Having been closed from flying embers threatening safety, Colonia Road from Oxnard Boulevard to Hayes Avenue, as well as Oxnard Boulevard from Roderick Avenue to 2nd Street remained inaccessible. "Railway traffic in the area is also closed," as per KTLA.
