
In a tragic turn of events, a bicyclist lost his life in Palm Desert after a severe traffic collision last evening, per an announcement issued by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. On March 12, law enforcement hurried to the intersection of Cook Street and Country Club Drive at approximately 7:31 p.m., following reports of a serious accident between a motor vehicle and a cyclist. When deputies arrived they found the cyclist grievously injured and unresponsive on the tarmac.
The male victim, whose identity remains concealed pending family notification, was rushed to a nearby hospital but despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he passed away from the sustained injuries. The driver of the car involved in the incident reportedly cooperated with authorities and stayed on-site throughout the ensuing investigation, the driver was not immediately cited for the crash and there was no indication that they were under the influence or had committed any infractions at the time of the incident.
The Sheriff's Department's Palm Desert Traffic Team has since taken the reins of this ongoing investigation, which prompted a temporary closure of the busy intersection; the road has now been reopened.
