Two suspects involved in a theft at a Dick's Sporting Goods store in Palmdale, California, were caught in a swift crackdown by a local code enforcement officer and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Palmdale Mayor Austin Bishop hailed the quick arrests, affirming the city’s zero-tolerance stance on such offenses. "The City will not tolerate such flagrant disregard for the law — even for property crimes," Bishop said, as reported by the City of Palmdale.
Early on March 20, a robbery was reported after the suspects were seen snatching goods and fleeing the scene on foot. A Palmdale Code Enforcement officer, acting vigilantly, spotted the suspects while they were trying to make a clean getaway behind a bus stop on their way to Lancaster. Despite their apparent cleverness, boarding a bus, the suspects were soon outsmarted by the tenacious code enforcement officer's quick communication with the Sheriff's department.
With the officer's real-time updates, the LASD patrol units were directed to the suspects' bus and performed a traffic stop. The response led to the arrest of the perpetrators, who were found to have stolen around $600-$700 worth of merchandise from Dick's Sporting Goods.
Additionally, in a twist to the case, one suspect tried pulling a fast one over on the authorities with a fake identity. Their plan backfired when deputies discovered an existing no-bail warrant against her, to the tune of $250,000. Arrested for theft and falsified identity, she has been sent to the county jail. Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa underscored the significance of the arrests, "Falsified identity and retail theft are no joke, and we are proud to report that this criminal is off the streets and paying for their crimes," he stated, as per the City of Palmdale.
