Palmdale, CA is launching a new fentanyl awareness initiative aimed at educating its youth about the dangers of drug abuse. The Fentanyl Awareness Spring Program scheduled from March 26 through March 28, will target individuals aged 12 to 17, offering them tools for personal development and resistance to drug abuse.

According to the City of Palmdale's recent announcement, the program is crafted to nurture key life skills in young people, including decision-making, stress management, and anger control. The initiative is also expected to address the influence of media on youth and, the challenges faced in social scenarios. The program, which includes lunch and water, will be held at Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center and Lancaster Community Center.

Mayor Austin Bishop in his statement about the program stressed the importance of proactive education. "We are committed to equipping students in our community with the knowledge and skills necessary to make positive choices for a brighter future," he said, highlighting the combined effort needed to protect the city's youth from the epidemic of substance misuse.

Registration for the free 3-day event can be done online, with the City urging early sign-ups for those interested. The initiative comes at a time when fentanyl-related incidents are on the rise, posing a significant threat to communities across the nation. With such programs, Palmdale hopes to make a dent in the fight against this crisis by starting with, its future – the youth.
