Authorities have successfully clipped the wings of a Brazilian fugitive right here in the City of Brotherly Love, delivering him into the hands of justice back in his homeland. According to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement release, Enforcement and Removal (ERO) Philadelphia tactically coordinated the removal of Ulisses De Oliveira Silva, a Brazilian national wanted for attempted murder in his home country.
De Oliveira first set foot on U.S. soil at the Santa Teresa Port of Entry in New Mexico back in 2017, raising flags almost immediately. He swiftly received a notice to appear, with CBP claiming grounds of inadmissibility under Immigration law. Despite the weight of the charges, De Oliveira was momentarily to walk amongst unsuspecting Americans after he was released under the Alternatives to Detention program.
In an unexpected turn of events, De Oliveira ducked the law, failing to appear for his scheduled court hearing, which led an immigration judge in Philly to order his removal from the U.S. But it wasn't until late last year that ERO picked up the scent of his whereabouts after digging into information about a Brazilian warrant for his arrest. The hunt was on, and ERO Philadelphia was not about to let their target slip through the net.
Fast forward to 2024, and ERO officers zeroed in on De Oliveira in Philly, swiftly taking him off the streets. Serving up a dish of cold, hard reality, he was detained at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center and cut loose any delusions of American sanctuary. As part of ICE's operation network, ERO is laser-focused on protecting the homeland and scrubbing the streets clean of those who threaten public safety and scoff at U.S. immigration laws.
"ERO’s mission is to protect the homeland through the arrest and removal of those who undermine the safety of U.S. communities and the integrity of U.S. immigration laws," details the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement report. Philadelphia can breathe easier now, knowing a dangerous fugitive is no longer lurking in the shadows of its storied streets.
