A Philadelphia menace is off the streets after a federal court dropped the hammer with a hefty sentence for two violent carjackings, authorities say. Dashawn Pringle, a 27-year-old Philly native, will serve more than a decade behind bars—one for each year of the 125 months' imprisonment handed to him on top of three years of supervised release, announced U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero in a statement.
The chilling spree began on April 23, 2022, when Victim #1, minding his own business in his 2021 Honda Pilot, found himself yanked from the comfort of routine by Pringle and an accomplice who jumped him, his attempt to flee foiled by fists and feet that pummeled him before his car was swiped, this carnage unfolded on the 5100 block of Race Street according to official reports. Less than two weeks later, in crime's early hours on May 1, after a ride-share drop-off, Victim #2 thought it's just a minor rear-end collision with Pringle's newly acquired Honda on South Camac Street, only to get confronted by the business end of a gun on Lombard Street, where Pringle, orchestrating fear, demanded stillness under threat of death while his partner in crime made off with another vehicle, as recounted by the U.S. Attorney's office.
By the time November 28, 2023 rolled around, Pringle had admitted his guilt to two counts of carjacking and one count of possessing ammunition as a felon, sealing his fate with a courtroom's gavel. “Carjackings are offenses that really undermine public confidence and quality of life,” Romero stated, striking at the heart of a community where everyday hustle and bustle should not flirt with the specter of violence, while also commending the efficiency of the Carjacking Task Force in making streets safer.
