A hail of gunfire erupted in Kensington, a neighborhood in Philadelphia, leaving a 21-year-old man critically wounded with two shots to the head. The violent encounter, occurring around midnight Friday on the 2600 block of B Street, near SEPTA's Market-Frankford line, found the police scrambling to piece together the events that led to nearly 30 shots being fired, as reported by FOX29.
Investigators, now to thoroughly sift through more than 25 spent shell casings found scattered at the scene, are hoping that SEPTA transit cameras and the city's real-time crime cameras might help shine a light on the circumstances of the shooting. Despite the breadth of surveillance in the vicinity of SEPTA's Huntington station, where the shooting took place, authorities have yet to make an arrest, as detailed by 6abc.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he continues to fight for his life in critical condition. The police's effort is now two-fold; not only are they investigating the cause and trying to find those responsible for this near-fatal shooting, but they were also initially unable to identify the victim, according to KYW Newsradio. The authorities are calling on the community for anyone with information to step forward and assist in the investigation.
While the victim's identity was initially a mystery, it's been indicated that police hope to also thoroughly review any footage from private security cameras in the neighborhood to create a clearer picture of the assailant or assailants. As the man clings to life and details remain sparse, the community and the victim's family are left to wonder at the events that transpired under the clattering tracks of the El. No information regarding a motive for the shooting has yet been disclosed by the police, and with no arrest reported, the search continues for whoever is responsible for this crime that disturbed the early hours in Kensington.
